Capture Challenges work in the following way: You'll have 3 minutes to capture as many Pokémon as you can. Different Pokémon will give you different amounts of points, mostly depending on their rarity and difficulty to capture. Once the time is up, your points will be tallied and compared against the current high score of the the challenge. You can do the challenges as many times as you want but certain Pokémon won't unlock until after the game credits roll or meeting other criteria. There are also some Pokémon that are exclusive to the challenges so if you want to complete the [[Pokémon Ranger/Browser|Browser]], you will need to do them. Unlike the Capture Arena, Pokémon in the challenges will register to your Browser but you still can't use Poké Assists.

Pokémon Ranger has 3 minigames called Challenges. The Marine Sea Challenge can be started by talking to the MC on the docks right next to the Lapras in Summerland. The Grassland Challenge can be started by talking to the MC in the upper right corner of Ringtown. The Capture Arena Challenge can be found by walking through the bottom left exit of Fall City then go inside the building and talk to the receptionist.

All of these challenges are optional and don't need to be done for the story of the game but if you want to complete the Browser then you need to do the Challenges as some Pokémon are locked behind them or they only appear in them.

Capture Arena

The Capture Arena Challenge is available after you watch the end game credits roll. If you are looking to complete the Browser then you need to beat Spensers high score of 50,000 to unlock Fearow in the Grassland Challenge.

You start the challenge with 2 minutes on the clock and Pokémon will appear. There are certain Pokémon for each level and to advance to the next level you need to capture the boss. For the boss to appear you need to capture a certain amount of Pokémon. You also can't use Poké Assists here. For each Pokémon capture, you will get points

The Pokémon in the Capture Arena don't give xp for your Styler and they don't register in your Browser. They also have the same amount of loops as they do in the wild but if you do extra loops you will get 1 second added to the timer per extra loop AFTER the required amount of loops are done. You can get up to an additional 10 seconds. If you capture more than 1 Pokémon at a time instead of getting time added, you will get a point multiplier like 2x for 2 Pokémon and 3x for 3 Pokémon. Also Pichu, Pikachu and Raichu recharge your Styler on top of giving you additional time with extra loops.

The challenge ends when you either run out of time or your Styler loses all of its power.

Strategy

This isn't easy and it may take several tries so don't panic if you can't beat Spensers high score right away.

The strategy to beating Spenser's score is as follows:

  • Always do 10 extra loops on Pichu, Pikachu and Raichu
  • In levels 1 and 2: Capture 1 Pokémon at a time as quickly as you can and try to get 10 extra loops with each Pokémon.
    • Zigzagoon, Taillow and Corphish are difficult to capture so try to do as many loops as you can but not getting 10 is ok.
  • In levels 3+: Try to get the multipliers as much as you can. If you can get the multiplier then try to get additional time
