==Attempted Import==
General comments:
Is this an attempted import from the Wikibooks Final Fantasy VI page? [http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/FF6] I've worked on that one and it's largely complete, let me know if there's anything I can do to help.--[[User:BigCow|BigCow]] 10:37, 31 May 2006 (PDT)

==Items List Setup==
It would be really cool to get this thing detailed and organized, although plenty of detailed FAQs existed for it in pure text form.
I had seen that you had worked on the FF6 WikiBook.  There is a lot of stuff I'm working on to improve upon that.  I just haven't updated the wiki.  It would be so much easier if I could grep on this windows machine.  I want to categorize each weapon, armor et al by what it is(weapon, armor, helmet, item, accessory) and by who can equip it, by adding a category tag, but the only way I can do that is to make a seperate page or template for each item. I really don't want to have to do that.  I'm adding a lot more item info as well(where to get it from, what you get for betting it at the colliseum, etc).  I'm also going to change the walkthrough chapter setup.

Do you know if there is a better way to categorize these items?  Thanks a bunch.--[[User:Filthy swine|Filthy swine]] 22:49, 4 June 2006 (PDT)
Your list of sidequests seems to be a bit sketchy, I don't see the trip to the lost city underground anywhere there and one value is repeated.

===Tables?===
Other useful lists to include might be the charts of what allows you to win what at the colleseum, and a list of the formulas and odds for the game which people have decoded.
I think what we'd want to do for the items stuff eventually is to set up a table, I just checked out the formatting rules on Wikipedia:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Table
I'd be willing to help out and do what I could to contribute, I just filled in a few things on strategy and choosing your party which applies to a few sections of the game. Let me know if anyone would like to coordinate this or help out. [[User:BigCow]]

Example:
As another side note, most guides recommend performing Sabin's sidequest last, as it allows you to keep Shadow in your party for the longest amount of time I believe, so I may reorder those as well.

{| border="1"
|+ The table's caption
! Column heading 1 !! Column heading 2 !! Column heading 3
|-
! Row heading 1
| Cell 2 || Cell 3
|-
! Row heading A
|Cell B
|Cell C
|}

Basically, we'd set up all the fields and stuff we needed and throw the text in as appropriate. The descriptions I have for all the items in the wikibook could be a starting place for a "description" field or something similar, and you might have something for immunities and stuff like that in rare cases... you could have a table for each type of equipment/item to make things easier as well.

For the Super Mario RPG wiki guide, I may start one eventually. What I've done before is just play through the game exhaustively and write up the guide as I go along. It would be fun to have a few side projects describing how to get all the incidental frog coins, flower tabs/jars/boxes in the game, and other stuff like a listing of minigames and their rewards.--[[User:BigCow|BigCow]] 19:28, 5 June 2006 (PDT)

===Seperate Pages For Items===
I want to avoid having a table for all items(it would become quite expansive), but I also want to avoid having redundancies with having specialized lists like a morph or colliseum list.  I like the idea of having seperate pages for the advantages that categorization could have for each individual item.--[[User:Filthy swine|Filthy swine]] 19:56, 5 June 2006 (PDT)
:Are you thinking about a seperate page for each type of item or a seperate page for each individual item themselves? Because I'm not sure wikipedia categories like: Category:FinalFantasyVIArmor would really help much, most people would probably prefer a summary view with some more detailed information.
: This type of Coliseum chart would be an example of one thing that would be easy to convert into a table, incidentally: http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ff/ff6/text/info/ff6colo.txt--[[User:BigCow|BigCow]] 10:18, 6 June 2006 (PDT)

==Wikibooks talk page==
I've gone through and filled in most of the chapters for the walkthrough and the sidequests, all with my own original content, from playing through the game and making notes as I went through for the most part. There are already a large number of FAQs and walkthroughs available at sites like GameFAQs.com and this game is pretty exhaustively explored by now, here's what I think this guide should be able to do:

==Motivations for having a Wiki guide==
*'''Completeness.''' There are a great deal of FAQs and guides which cover most information about the game but very few that present a detailed summary of all areas. There has been analysis covering the algorithms, equipment, colliseum, and other areas. Having a guide which can be edited means that if we forget any secrets in the game they can be added easily, so our guide should be able to contain all information about the game.
*'''Organization.''' This is a benefit of having an HTML guide rather than a giant pure text walkthrough like GameFAQs offers. You should be able to link to any section and find the relevant information or advice needed easily, by following a link to a section or within a section.
*'''References.''' All the information should be strongly related. For example, in the Esper's section, if it talks about finding the Alexander Esper in Cyan's sidequest, it should link to Cyan's sidequest and vice versa. When talking about the Atma Weapon the page should link to an identifier for the Atma Weapon under equipment. The information should be well-referenced and connected so users can trace different elements and their relations.
*'''Images/media''' I filled in a few boss templates for the early scenarios but most of my descriptions and strategies are textual. Another benefit to an online guide is using images to clearly identify gameplay elements, bosses, and locations which may be hard to find. For example, showing the location of each island on the world map would make things much easier for navigation, and having a giant map where each portion linked to a particular location would be ideal. And in general, the more pictures which are referenced to different parts, the better.
*'''Formatted Tables/Lists''' There are currently some good lists for the espers and skills although the latter is not complete. More could be said about all the elements in the game and which spells or armors are affected by those elements, for example poison can be either poison or bio, whereas no spell exists with the water element but the Aqua Rake Lore has water as its element. Formatted lists of stats, of the prizes in the Colliseum, and other game detail would be extremely helpful and easy to use as a reference.

==ToDo:==

*Fill in the boss images and more detail on their stats using the given template
*Add more images
*Improve references between the sections and add them for espers, spells, and equipment when feasible
*Fill in the remaining lists for skills, equipment, the Colliseum, and spells/elements. Some information about the algorithms might be useful as well, if we credit a source on GameFAQs.
*Some editing would probably be necessary although difficult, I wrote all the chapters after 1 myself and haven't gone through in much detail.

== Orphaned page ==

[[Final Fantasy VI/Items/Atma Weapon]] is orphaned, and should be listed in the appropriate page (or merged). --[[User:DrBob|DrBob]] ([[User_talk:DrBob|Talk]]) 07:01, 24 February 2007 (CST)

== Merge from FFVI Adv. ==

Anyone have any objections to merging the tiny amount of material from [[Final Fantasy VI Advance]] here? All there is really to do is add an article or section on the new controls and the small number of changes made to the Translation & graphics. If there is nothing stopping this, I'll do the honors in a few days.
:Hold off on it. Proper merges can only be done by sysops, so one of them will take care of it (as the edit histories must be merged, which requires deletion and undeletion). Also, try to remember to sign your comments on talk pages with <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>. Also, they should have separate guides even if they are relatively the same game, and that's what I'm guessing. --{{User:Ryan Schmidt/sig}} 15:00, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
::Right now the FFVIA guide only has a controls page, which one of us will take care of.  If the list of changes is fairly short, simply put the list on the main [[Final Fantasy VI Advance]] page. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|Talk]]) 21:45, 11 August 2007 (CDT)

== Item names? ==

Is there a reason that several times in this walkthrough items have different names to that which appear in the game? (eg, Potions called Tonics, Phoenix Down called Fenix). Is that what they were called in the original SNES version? I'm playing the new GBA version, and it's disconcerting when things don't match up. --[[User:LeftHandedGuitarist|LeftHandedGuitarist]] 14:48, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
:The SNES version uses Tonics ''and'' Potions.  Tonics heal 50HP while Potions heal 250 HP.  Also, in the SNES version it's spelled Fenix Down.  Yeah, weird.  --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 20:10, 22 August 2007 (CDT)

::Do you think it's worth changing and keeping names consistant throughout all the Final Fantasy games? Especially since the older ones have all been updated in some form now. --[[User:LeftHandedGuitarist|LeftHandedGuitarist]] 07:26, 23 August 2007 (CDT)

:::Why would we change the names if they are correct? If the GBA version has other names, we can easily append such usages to the item list and guide (or we can do a full re-write of the guide for the GBA version, like how the [[Twilight Princess]] guide varies from GC and Wii).  Yeah it will be a pain, but it won't be much.  --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 11:15, 23 August 2007 (CDT)
