:Hi Trig Jegman. Yeah, I captured a lot of those images personally, especially the single screen games like Combat, Bubble Bobble, Lode Runner, and Chack'n Pop.  Other games like Castle Excellent and Athena were done so long ago, I'm not sure I'd be able to locate them again if I tried.  I have a tendency to add markup to them in the process of making them consumable for a walkthrough.  I know this isn't the most satisfactory answer, but it's the best I have right now.  If I somehow conjure up the source for some of the other images, I'll let you know.  But I'm more likely to stumble across them accidentally than intentionally.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 03:01, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Mighty Bomb Jack guide
Hey Procyon,

I came across your guide by accident, and just want to throw you a quick comment to show my appreciation. I acquired my NES in 1987 at the age of 6, and with it, Mighty Bomb Jack. Since the game was my first real experience with console gaming, it holds a special place in my heart. I had never completed the game, and really never knew how close i'd come in my best attempts (only one room away from the king, it turns out!). I grabbed the rom today, and along with your guide had a good time turning the game inside out for old times sake. Nacht 17:40, 11 January 2008 (CST)
No problem! After I finish the RSE guide, I'm going to apply the new templates me and Prod made to the FRLG pages too - Hopefully, it'll decrease the file size for them. Then I'll probably check out the other Pokémon guides to see what they're like, and maybe go onto a different franchise. [[User:Pakuchi|Pakuchi -- Someone! Anyone! ==I need some guidance==
Hi Procyon! Um, honestly I am kind of embarrassed on pinging you about this considering that you are the head of StrategyWiki, but the thing is, I want to ask for guidance from you regarding about some of my guides because recently I have been thinking of something, I want to know what you think and what will be your advice to me regarding about this, this will be somewhat long so I hope you have time to read, also thank you very much for writing on my Talk page along with Prod, so here it is, I've been thinking of this for quite a while now.

You've just gained muchos respect from me for using the correct ellipsis entity in the last announcement. :-D --DrBob (talk) 20:23, 11 January 2008 (CST)
You see, I have these 2 games named Astrobatics and Alien Sky that I made a Stage 2 guide from, and what bothers me is that no matter how much I think of how to improve the guides for these 2 (I can still improve them, in fact 2 more overhauls each but it is not that significant anymore) I can't really think of what more I can provide for these 2 games to make the guides for them Stage 3 eligible, the issue I am thinking about is its levels, or missions as what the games refer, it is some sort of a real time mission
: Excellent; at least somebody's paying attention to my public pedanticism. I did see what Nacht wrote, and I think it's great he took the time to tell you. Good job! --DrBob (talk) 08:16, 12 January 2008 (CST)

Alright, alright
Here are some samples of it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRzhucERGqE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7X_VzuQG14

I admit I was on a bit of a roll with the whole thing and maybe I went a little overboard, particularly on yours. I was mainly referring to paragraphing, actually. They seem kinda large and can be split into multiple smaller paragraphs rather than one big one.
The problem with these missions is that they really can't be described anymore with text + picture, while these games have predictable pacing as what I mentioned in its Walkthrough page, this is a roadblock that I feel like its unnecessary to break through

I'm not sure if it was very "flame-y", considering how I mentioned how to improve and also how to get further assistance, but I'll edit it anyway. ----Arrow Windwhistler (talk) 13:01, 12 January 2008 (CST)
Explaining these missions "down to the bone" as in referring to where would enemies come in, come out, and all that, just feels like unnecessary information and nobody would basically read it, a good example of a game just like this is Sky Force Reloaded, a game I have also nearly mastered a few months ago, I even have my runs in this game uploaded in my YouTube account and I can provide a sample, and just like these 2 games, Sky Force Reloaded also has the same kind of level, basically real time, it has predictable pacing but the levels are way too complex to be torn apart into text + picture form, if you want to recognize the levels of this game you would rather want to just do a trial and error, train your mind memory and muscle memory until you recognize where will enemies appear since enemy positions and appearances don't change, only drops do.

Pokémon guide
I have been thinking just now that what if the guides for Astrobatics and Alien Sky are already Stage 3 eligible at this point? I will still have to improve them but I believe once I did, they should be at least Stage 3 eligible, but I am afraid that some people may attempt to dispute its ranking and say that it may miss an information, which is also a big problem on my part because I cannot look for someone who has played these 2 games, finished it completely, and then decide to pay my guide a visit and judge it

Just wanted to make sure you saw this. --DrBob (talk) 00:58, 14 January 2008 (CST)
Assuming that you gave me a go signal to make these guides Stage 3 eligible, I will take that into mind and once I have finally provided 2 more major overhauls I will upgrade it to Stage 3, then, if I was able to find someone who can read these guides and tell me how it is, if it came out as having a really good review saying that it is comprehensive enough, then I will upgrade it to Stage 4 but this is a process that I won't be able to do in just days unless if I am lucky enough to find one quick.

Hi i was wondering, would you prefer when writing an article (e.g. enemies guide), if i had to make a quick change and I didn’t have the time to go through an entire thing at once, would you prefer me to initially either list them as headers that are empty underneath or list them in dots points (in case) and then expand on them when i have the chance? == Samurai Shodown and series revision ==
I need help on the New Zealand Story Enemies
After looking at Samurai Shodown V, I think some things really need to be changed, and I know you're the guy to help me out. First of all, I think rather than "Walkthrough" being the repository for game controls, "Getting Started" or "Controls" would be more appropriate, since the Walkthrough section needs to exist for guide standardization and explanation of how the info in the guide is contained.
Procyon, I need your help, there is a lot of enemies in the New Zealand Story, And the art program I use can only hold 700 pixels and will get the picture blurry, Can you help me please. Also can you make all the character sprites what yo did to that Pac-Man Sprites it looks more cool.

Secondly, I think the characters section should be under so that it can be easily imported into each Nav, and I think it should have its own row where all three columns of characters are spread out, with a "Characters" title centered above.
By Game Player500

Thirdly, the "Moves" section on the main page of Samurai Shodown V should be subpaged to its own movelist page, which should also appear on the SSV ToC.  I can't think of anything else right now, except that it's ugly =P -- 19:35, 18 January 2008 (CST)
TY for work on the Mighty Bomb Jack page
:Notmyhandle's criticisms are mostly valid, but ppl need to be clear that these are problems with all of the fighting game guides and not just Samurai Shodown V.
Hey. Just wanted to say thank you for all the work you did on the Mighty Bomb Jack page. I recently discovered it while trying to make a full game map. All I came for was the images of all the rooms so I could layer them together in a GIMP project... but then I noticed that crazy shortcut from 5 to 11! Turns out it saves time in speedruns compared to warping between the Palace Rooms. It helped me recently get World Record!

:Firstly, the Samurai Shodown V page is on par with the other articles in the fighting games category. Look at Street Fighter III, Mortal Kombat II, The King of Fighters '95, Samurai Shodown, etc. for reference. The problem with controls, universal moves, rules, etc. ending up in the walkthrough is endemic throughout virtually all of the fighting game guides. I would guess this is mainly because it's impossible to make a page without a walkthrough section (technically it is possible, but it breaks the "show" button and if you do itin a multi-page guide it will probably be reverted within 60 minutes) and there's typically no reason to have a walkthrough for a fighting game, or a puzzle game, or a sports game. So, in an effort to avoid having an article full of links to a nonexistent walkthrough page, authors of fighting game guides end up dumping what should go under Getting Started and/or Controls into the walkthrough page and then renaming the walkthrough link in the TOC to "How to Play". I would assume that when ppl create new fighting game articles they typically just copy the layout from the existing, less than stellar, guides thus helping spread the plague. When I made the samsho5 page I was copying the layouts of Samurai Shodown, the Street Fighter series, and the Marvel vs. Capcom series and yes, I would agree that all of these pages "really need to be changed."
I was hoping you could tell me where you found that trick. Seems crazy to think someone could discover it by accident. Did you do a code disassembly or was it in some sort of Nintendo Power or old school strategy guide? SpaceColonizer (talk) 19:33, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

:The current help section doesn't cover what should be done when dealing with a game for which the purpose of the walkthrough isn't very obvious. In fact, the help section on organization doesn't even list walkthrough in its sample layouts for both fighting games and racing games. There also seems to be a dearth of good examples for modeling a fighting game guide after, as in they don't actually exist.
:That information was sourced from a Japanese guide.  I don't recall which one, it was a long time ago.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 00:55, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

:Secondly, the characters section is under . I just embedded it in so that the page would have the samsho5 header instead of the samsho header. I'm not a big fan of the current TOC/Header setup as it applies to games in a series. For example, if a user is looking at the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike page and they click the Characters link in the TOC, they suddenly find themselves in the Street Fighter III section with no obvious route back to their starting point save using the back button in their web browser. I find it inefficient and unintuitive to have to click "show" on the header and then find and click "Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike" as a means of returning to the page I was just at. This was part of my attempt to kinda, sorta deal with this problem. Now if a user clicks the Characters link and then decides they don't actually want to read the character bios they have an obvious route back to their starting point.
Mother 1+2 Box
:Thirdly, in regards to your comment: "Are you aware of the purpose of the [hide]/[show] button on the left of the Nav? It opens up the Table of Contents, so really, all of the links that you're adding are already in the Nav if you click [show]." I'd just like to point out that the Table of Contents and Walkthrough links in the header are also redundant as you can access them by clicking [hide]/[show]. I am of the opinion that if there's going to be redundancy it should at least be semi-consistent. Besides, using the whole [hide]/[show] is kind of a pain. It's a lot easier if all of the major links (TOC, Walkthrough, Characters, Appendix) are right there in the header. Just my 2¢. But I don't want to do it if it's going to irritate folks or just keep getting reverted. --WretchedSpawn 19:20, 19 January 2008 (CST)
Thanks for bringing the file size to my attention. Do you think I could compress the existing file? I can't find any other good scans for the Mother 1+2 box online. Thanks for your time. GamingBound (talk) 19:46, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

::Sorry. The "less than stellar" bit was referring exclusively to the guide layouts, and mostly just the walkthrough issue. The guides themselves are typically excellent. I should have made that clearer and it was still an exaggeration on my part.

Question about game maps
Zelda II Box
I like the maps you included in the Mighty Bomb Jack guide, and I'm working on incorporating similar maps for The Lost Vikings but I need some advice.  I can make the maps I need, but they end up being quite large.  For example, the map for the second level of The Lost Vikings ended up being 1024 x 783 pixels, and approx 207KB.  Some maps later in the game would be even larger.  I think it's a good size to indicate everything needed for a player, but it's obviously too large to include on a webpage.  I know I have the option of using the scrolling map template, but would it be better to use that or to scale down the image? Or are there other options I'm not aware of?  I'm afraid that if I scale down the image then detail will be lost, making it potentially less useful.  It would be like the difference in the Actraiser maps on snesmaps.com and the version of those maps used in the ActRaiser guide on StrategyWiki.  Clearly, the SW version is so small it's hard to make some things out. Any ideas? --New User 21:43, 18 January 2008 (CST)
Hello! Could you please find a way to fix the file for the Zelda II: The Adventure of Link box? I am not sure of how to properly downscale it so its file size isn't so big. Thank you. GamingBound (talk) 00:08, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
:Thanks for the advice.  Since seeing the path to the the exit (and the exit itself) is the main focus, I see how the smaller map will work.  Still, I never heard of "cubic interpolation" before, but after playing around with GIMP I think I've figured it out so I'll give it a shot.  Oh and about the name New User, I started that when I would use public computers to access websites, because some sites save the user name in the login screen even after the session has ended.  There's no chance of someone getting my password or anything, but if I use a computer at a library or internet cafe and sign in to StrategyWiki or Wikipedia, then sign out, when the next person goes to the sign in screen the name New User (which doesn't appear to be a user name at all) appears in the username field, so it's really just for increased anonymity.  --New User 22:44, 18 January 2008 (CST)

Pocket Fighter
I think it's ready to be feature, so I'll throw my support up on that in a bit, however as I'm reviewing all of the content I'm coming up with things you might want to also notice:
#Footer Navs may not be present on all pages.
#The how to play section lacks any GUI information (for the health section you could put an image of a health bar, and if health bars are multi-tiered you could show that in an image as well... but I don't think Pocket Fighters has multi-tiered health bars... You could also put images of what the "win" counters look like and the super meter too.).
#Item sections lacks definitive damage notes (even relative to one another).  If there's a way you can find out a number for each that would be awesome.
#There's a note at the bottom of the items page that says items can affect anyone if thrown and it misses - just for clarification you're saying you can hurt yourself with these?  It's not clearly apparent.
#Missing image of a "rainbow gem."
#In the "Knock Downs and Mega Crush" section of How to play, the term "Counter Crash" - is it correct? Or should it be "Counter Crush"?
#Perhaps we should move Walkthrough to How to Play, then redirect Walkthrough to that page, then re-arrange the page so we can remove that one level 2 header...
#I changed "Dashin Kick" to "Dashing Kick" on the Walkthrough page - you didn't add the apostrophe so I wasn't sure if it was legitimate.

Thanks for the little tip, but it almost sounded insulting. Me and the guys have only been working on that for a week, and you should've seen how little it had on there. Plus, I did say that on the thing, too. I will listen to what you said, so I will clean that up a little bit, but still. Besides, I forgot half of the game's story, so that's why there's a big gap between Chapters 6-18. Besides that, there's also Legendary Pokemon guides (Unfinished, by far.), and I had a temporary partners list, but some idiot deleted that, so I have to recreate that. So, thanks. GaleZephule

You're right. I guess I got a little sensitive about it. But can I ask one thing that has to do with improving the guide? If a Table of Contents is locked, how do you unlock it? It's just that I went to get an extra page in, and I couldn't because somebody locked it! Is there anything I could do?
Also, if you could, can you maybe help out on writing some things, too? We really could use an extra hand. I'm the only one that's actually writing and not cleaning up, and it gets hard. So if you can, thanks!  GaleZephule

Thanks for telling me about the spacing. I was wondering how all of my writing ended up like that. Really, thanks! GaleZephule

Can you take a look at the guide now, and see if I'm doing any good with it, and stuff? I just want to know if that's what you would have done. Also, notice that I actually did my signature this time. --GaleZephule 13:59, 13 February 2008 (CST)

No worries; I learned long ago that what I considered to be the optimal way of organizing things doesn't always match everyone else's preference. The changes that you made to the CV2 guide work for me; I like having the story on the front page since it means less white space. In any case, it's good to have the perspective of someone who hasn't played the game as much as I have. I probably played the game at least seven times over the course of making the guide, which has the unfortunate side-effect of making it impossible to see things from the perspective of a new player.

Go ahead and make all the changes that you want. If I disagree with them, I'll bring it up here. - Koweja 17:41, 7 March 2008 (CST)

Re: CV2 sprites
That would be great, as the sprites in CV2 are exceptionally drab. I have a few more to upload, specifically the common enemies, but whatever you can do to improve them would be great. I would ask that you don't animate them, as I really don't like animation on webpages. You can find all of the original sprites here: http://www.spriters-resource.com/konami/castlevania/cv2/. Hi. I like the screenshots of maps of Phantom Hourglass you uploaded. Can I ask - how did you take them? If via an emulator, which one? I'm using no$gba but the colours are very washed out compared to your pics. Pelago 15:16, 13 April 2008 (CDT)
:Ah, it looks like No$GBA (which I believe is supposed to be the fastest emulator, not that I've tested myself) can be configured to give brighter colours, by going into Emulation Options, then setting GBA Mode to "VGA (poppy bright)". Then the pics look just like your IDeaS shots. This is good because I was thinking of submitting some screenshots and wanted them to look consistent with yours. Thanks, glad you like it so far. If you don't agree with any of my changes, feel free to revert or bring up with me. I'm more than happy to find a middle ground. As for the "less-is-more", I agree with that for the walkthrough (though I don't always follow that philosophy) especially, though I find that some sections, especially the Getting Started/How to Play/etc, the more you can put out there, the more likely you are to cover everyone's needs. As long as things are properly sectioned, it shouldn't be too confusing.

One thing that I meant to ask you about is your(?) strategy against Dracula's second form. It originally said to use the Holy Water, however I changed it to say use the Boomerang. I forgot to ask this before: but why exactly are they listed in the first place? This is a video game guide site, I don't see why the site is promoting the video game music in the first place. It doesn't provide guide help. Random things thrown into main articles doesn't seem like a good thing for here. Isn't it better suited for a Nintendo fan wiki, or a general video game wiki (that doesn't have the main purpose of guides)? RobJ1981 00:07, 15 April 2008 (CDT)

I didn't ban him for that.  If you can't see his acts of vandalism, then you need to look closer (and at other wikis).  For the king dedede page, only some of the changes are valid, and so I reverted it as the first step in fixing it (although I should have waited and done an undo, I think.  Wait that doesn't work does it...).  Anyways, clearly his contributions are positive in some ways, but that doesn't mean they are always acceptable.  If you want to clean up his shit from now on, go ahead and unban him.  I'm not going to deal with assaulthead if I have to.  -- 16:44, 18 April 2008 (CDT)
:I rechecked the edit, just to make things right, and I see the little thing that triggered my revert click, although yeah I shouldn't have on that edit - the image was purposefully formatted incorrectly to require an edit anyways (should have made it right to minimize edits), but the additional info is indeed valid.  His tactics are brilliant...  BRILLIANT!  -- 16:58, 18 April 2008 (CDT)

Sourcing[edit source]

I'm looking to convert a lot of screenshots and you're responsible for a lot of em. Do you remember if you captured any of the screenshots below? If not, remember where they came from? I would share more, but can only generate 500 at a time!

Much thanks! Trig - 06:20, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Trig Jegman (talk · contribs). Procyon 03:01, 21 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe to put this another way, are there any significant examples you can think of where you didn't self capture them? Trig - 04:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for the Thanks[edit source]

Hey Procyon,

No problem! After I finish the RSE guide, I'm going to apply the new templates me and Prod made to the FRLG pages too - Hopefully, it'll decrease the file size for them. Then I'll probably check out the other Pokémon guides to see what they're like, and maybe go onto a different franchise. Pakuchi -- Someone! Anyone! Respond! 13:54, 1 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I need some guidance[edit source]

Here are some samples of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRzhucERGqE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7X_VzuQG14

The problem with these missions is that they really can't be described anymore with text + picture, while these games have predictable pacing as what I mentioned in its Walkthrough page, this is a roadblock that I feel like its unnecessary to break through

I am really sorry for the inconvenience Procyon, I have mentioned you on Discord about this but it seems that you are already not active in there, thank you. Stormshadow429 (talk) 07:24, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Make Betterer[edit source]

Couldn't Castle Excellent/Walkthrough use template:scrolling map for its page now? Having that giant sprite doesn't seem like it is very helpful. Trig - 21:12, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I didn't realize that the file name was repurposed. I went ahead and fixed it without the scrolling map part. Not sure scrolling map would be very effective there, especially considering it's in a spoiler collapse. Could be a good idea, I'm not sure. Procyon 00:51, 27 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Regardless, better have a usable map than a not-usable map. Thanks for the change. Trig - 02:12, 28 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question[edit source]

Hi i was wondering, would you prefer when writing an article (e.g. enemies guide), if i had to make a quick change and I didn’t have the time to go through an entire thing at once, would you prefer me to initially either list them as headers that are empty underneath or list them in dots points (in case) and then expand on them when i have the chance? Kikai[edit source]

Couldn't see what the page contained but I found some things that *might* have been the game?

Maybe this helps find if this was a legitimate game or not. Worst to worst, maybe we don't have one of these games and it can be added instead. Trig - 02:24, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I appreciate you digging in to see if there was any real world examples of a game named Kikai. None of these seem to relate to the content that the user added, so it's difficult to determine whether the user's content was based on a real game in development, or more of a fantasy wish-list game. I'm not going to worry much about it though. Procyon 17:45, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

TY for work on the Mighty Bomb Jack page[edit source]

I was hoping you could tell me where you found that trick. Seems crazy to think someone could discover it by accident. Did you do a code disassembly or was it in some sort of Nintendo Power or old school strategy guide? SpaceColonizer (talk) 19:33, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
