Choose your character

At the beginning of the game, the pirate dog El Dorado will give Mr. Postman a letter. Apparently the name on it is smudged and so Mr. Postman takes it to Donatello, the old Weimaraner. He says that it's that kid (you) and tries to remember what their name was. Now, you go into a menu thing, and you can choose what type of dog you are. Just for this guide, let's say you're a Labrador. Next, you get to choose what colour your character is. Depending on the breed of dog you could have one, two or three choices. If you chose a Dalmation, for example, you would only have one choice of colour, whereas with a Labrador you have three choices. Let's say you choose a black one. Now, after saying that you have made your decision, it will ask if you want a male of female character (we'll choose Male). Choose which, and then you get to choose a name. Use the pad to cycle along the letters. Let's say you call your dog Blackie. Now, you'll go back to the game, and Donatello will say something about you having a brother or sister. You choose which (we'll choose sister) and then Mr. Postman will take the letter to your house.
