Hanii[edit | edit source]

Throughout the game, you are in control of Hanii, a special haniwa statue with the power to fly and shoot his way through dangerous enemy territory. He has been tasked by the god Izanagi to rescue his wife Izanami, whose soul has been claimed by a demon. To accomplish this task, Izanagi will aid Hanii by selling him power-ups, and transporting him back to stages that he's previously visited upon request.

Hanii has the ability to shoot in eight different directions. By pressing I button, Hanii will rotate his weapon 45 degrees clockwise. It is not possible to rotate Hanii's weapon in a counter-clockwise direction. As a result, if Hanii is going to circle an enemy and attack it, doing so in a clockwise direction is the best strategy. Trying to go the other way will result in needing to press I button much more in order to aim in the right direction.

You have to manage your weapons and items carefully. You earn points for defeating enemies, and you spend those points at Izanagi's shop. If you are having trouble in a certain area, or feel that you need more health, it's a good idea to return to a previous area and destroy enemies to earn more points. As you grow stronger, you'll find flying through previous stages much easier than the first trip through.

Hanii has a health meter. He loses health when he is struck by an enemy, or one of their bullets. If the health meter is ever depleted, the game will end, although you will be given limited opportunities to continue. You can buy potions to restore your health meter, but you must consume them in the pause menu before they take effect.

Pause Menu[edit | edit source]

You can access the pause menu at any time, but in order todo so, you must first press Run button to pause the game, and then I button to bring up the menu. When you do this, Izanagi will talk to you before offering the following selections:

  • れいりょくとこうかん - Store (purchase new weapons and items)
  • そうび - Equip weapons/armors or use items
  • くうかんいどうどう - Change level (as long as they have already been completed)

Note that regardless of what you select, finishing your selection or pressing II button at any time will cause Izanagi to ask you if you have any further business. Select はい to return to the top menu, or select いいえ to quit the menu and return to the game, at which point, the game will no longer be paused.

れいりょくとこうかん (Store)[edit | edit source]

In order to buy items from Izanagi, you must destroy enough enemies to accumulate the right number of points. If you have enough to buy an item, select it and press I button to exchange points for the item. For more information about these items, please see the Items page.

Regardless of your level of power, Izanagi will always have the following items available for sale:

Item Level 1 Engine
Level 2 Engine
Level 3 Engine
Three-way gun
Points 2000 4000 8000 50000
Item Auto-fire
Potion
Invisibility
Smart missile
Points 500 7500 25000 20000

そうび (Equip)[edit | edit source]

Select this on the menu to equip newly bought or rewarded items. Buying or finding an item is not enough. You must enter this menu in order to make the new items active. Items are broken down into four categories:

  • ほのお - Speed
  • つるぎ - Weapon
  • よろい - Armor
  • そのほか - Other

くうかんいどうどう (Change Level)[edit | edit source]

Choose this to select a level to return to. You may only visit levels that you have previously visited, whether you completed them or not. You do not have to clear a level before you change levels again, you may do this as frequently as you like.
