Route 202 is where you will learn to catch Pokémon. Also here you can catch 2 new Pokémon in Shinx who's an Electric type and a great addition to your team and for Diamond and Pearl players, you can get a Kricketot. You will run into your first trainers as well who will give experience and money.

Route 202 map

Pokémon catching lesson[edit | edit source]

Enter Route 202 and once you go into the first grass you see you will find Lucas/Dawn. He/she will call you over and tell you to say goodbye to your mom. While saying bye to your mom Barrys mom gives you a parcel to give to Barry. Once done return to Lucas/Dawn and he/she will show you how to catch Pokémon. It’s helpful to lower the foe’s HP into the yellow or red before throwing the ball. You will then receive you 5 Pokéballs from them and you can start catching new Pokémon now!

Traversing the route[edit | edit source]

Your ultimate goal here is to catch new Pokémon and train your team via the trainers and wild Pokémon

Follow the route to the left through the grass and then go up. Walk right to find Youngster Tristan standing in front of the trees.

Go right from Tristan and stop when you’re facing a column of trees. Take two steps down and travel right and you’ll unavoidably come into Lass Natalie's view.

Go up through the tall grass and before you can go left is Youngster Logan.

Head left past the main path and into the grassy area. You’ll find a Potion. Leave the grassy area and walk back onto the main path. Head upward to Jubilife City.

New Pokémon[edit | edit source]

#403 Shinx

Shinx is an interesting little guy, being a Electric type, and showing up so early in the game. Shinx will be useful throughout the game, able to take out Flying and Water typed with ease, and can become very formidable fighters. Pick one up for type coverage.
